British Council ready to help education Ministry polish language teachers Skills
The British Council held a media engagement session to reflect the strides made in its second Professional Upskilling of English Language Teachers (Pro-ELT) project.
Following its first Pro-ELT project in 2012, the council had embarked on its second, which began in March this year..
Pro-ELT deputy project director Annette Zammit said Pro-ELT 2 involved 9,000 teachers, a big step from 5,000 teachers in its previous programme.

Prime Minister Dayuk Seri Najib Razak's Budget 2015 Speech reinforced the goverenment's seriousness in improving the english proficiency skills of graduates and making them more employable by tightening the entry requirements for public institutions of higher learning or institusipengajian tinggi awam(IPTA)
By 2015, all 61000 English teachers would have to pass the Cambridge placement Test, achieving interantional standards.

The Education Ministry, in its efforts to help pupils acquire basic English language literacy, has taken the initiative to expand the Literacy and Numeracy Screening (LINUS) programme to include English literacy.
Based on the achievement of LINUS in 2012 with a performance close to 100 per cent for Bahasa Malaysia literacy and numeracy, LINUS2.0 was implemented as a support programme to further improve English literacy among pupils in their first three years of primary school education.
