Pre-School Teachers

Many schools on the project also have a pre-school attached. These teachers are not directly involved in the project, but where practicable these teachers have also been included in the workshops conducted by mentors. This has been particularly relevant to the teaching of phonics as this approach to learning reading is new to KSSR and whilst it is currently being taught to year one pupils, it is actually best used in pre-school where the children can be introduced to basic reading and writing skills prior to taking on the KSSR syllabus. Pre-school teachers are not included as part of the assessment for observation or mentoring, but they are very much included in the training workshops organised by mentors.
